Passivation

Passivation for aluminum

Passivation is a form of surface treatment that reduces the material's tendency to react with its surroundings. This surface treatment is suitable for obtaining good electrical conductivity, increased corrosion protection, or improving adhesion when painting, for example. There are different types of passivation depending on which property is desired. The surface treatment method is commonly used before powder coating, for example within the automotive industry.

Advantages of passivation

One of the biggest benefits of passivation is the improved corrosion properties. The material gets an electrically conductive layer and the aluminum also gets a good base and better adhesion e.g. varnish, paint, and glue. The surface treatment provides a clear and largely transparent surface layer.
